Frequently Asked Questions
Are you accepting new clients? If not, how long is the waitlist?
We are currently accepting new clients, however, our waitlist and onboarding process can vary between each office. We invite you to get in touch with us by filling out our contact form to stay up-to-date with information on our current waitlist!
What happens during our first visit?
Please plan to arrive 15 minutes early for your first appointment. You may download forms online, under “Resources”, then “Forms” on the homepage of this website. These forms are password protected, so you will need to contact the office to obtain access. Your therapist will come out to greet you in the waiting room. Your child will be asked to remove his/her shoes, and he/she may choose a pair of socks to wear throughout their visit (or plan to bring your own!). This is to keep a healthy, clean environment for everyone and for the safety of the mats in the gym (yes, even the parents please!). Your therapist will then ask background questions and establish rapport in a playful manner. Your child will be put at ease immediately–this is a comfortable, fun, and playful place to be!
What is Pediatric Developmental Therapy?
Pediatric developmental therapy focuses on how a child is progressing across all areas of development. At Communication Corner & More, our top priority is making sure your child can reach their highest potential! That’s why our pediatric therapy services aim to provide your child with their own personalized treatment plan that considers their lifestyle, health requirements, and personal demands.
What is Speech Therapy?
Speech Therapy, also known as Speech Language Pathology, is the study, diagnosis, and treatment of voice, articulation, communication, and written language disorders. The evaluation and treatment of neurological/physical disorders caused by trauma or illness are also addressed. Examples of such disorders may include difficulty swallowing, motor speech disorders, cognitive disorders and feeding disorders.
What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational therapy facilitates fine motor skills, gross motor skills, self-care, and sensory integration skills to help achieve independent functioning in everyday life. Working with fine motor skills, for example, the small muscles in the hand, will build strength to help a child write or use scissors to cut. Sensory integration refers to the processing, integration and organization of sensory information from the body/environment.
What is Physical Therapy?
Physical therapists are dedicated to improving and restoring physical skills, by strengthening those areas to increase mobility, balance and flexibility. They work with difficulties involving gross motor function in the major muscle groups. Physical Therapy goals often include help with developmental milestones such as sitting, standing, crawling and walking. Infants are also treated for torticollis.
What insurance plans do you currently accept?
We are currently in-network and accept:
- Advent Health
- Aetna Better Health
- Health First Health Plan
- Simply Health
- Straight Medicaid
- Tricare Select and Prime
Although you may be in-network, this does not guarantee coverage for all disorders that are developmental in nature. In addition, you may still be eligible for coverage for the insurance companies that are out-of-network with us. We also offer private pay options and packages, as well. Please contact us today to learn more.
Will my insurance cover an evaluation and/or therapy?
Most often, insurance will cover at least a portion, if not all of an evaluation. Coverage for therapy services will depend on the individual insurance plan, and it is often determined by medical necessity. It is each family’s responsibility to verify insurance benefits prior to receiving services. We will take a copy of your insurance card to verify your benefits; however, it is ultimately the family’s responsibility to research as well. Our office staff will also inquire with your insurance plan coverage as a courtesy to you. Each plan is different and coverage is not guaranteed until claim is processed by your insurance company.
How much do pediatric therapy services cost?
Are your services performed on-site or in the home?
We provide both on-site and in-home services! You can count on our qualified team of medical professions and therapists to help your child grow and thrive whether in one of our Communication Corner & More offices or in the comfort of your home!
Do I need a script from the doctor to begin?
What ages do you serve?
At Communication Corner & More, we serve children from birth to 21 years and cater to a wide and extensive range of needs.
How long should therapy services last for my child?
Each child will have their own individual needs so our therapy timelines vary for each patient. Our certified therapists perform a comprehensive evaluation where they will create a personalized treatment plan for your child. Head over to our services page to learn more!
What is a GAP exception?
You can also get a Clinical Gap Exception through your insurance if you are pursuing our clinic for a specialized intervention plan that cannot be found at another area clinic (i.e., Interactive Metronome, Feeding/Swallowing Therapy, Myofunctional Therapy).
Do I need to verify my benefits with my insurance?
Absolutely, you should always know your insurance benefits. When we call your insurance to obtain your benefits, we’re given a quote. This means, there is no guarantee of payment until the claim is received/processed. Sometimes, insurances will only pay for medical necessity diagnoses, so it is required that you understand and call to check on your benefits as well. KNOW YOUR BENEFITS!
**We offer private pay options that are sometimes less expensive than your copay. We also offer private pay packages to pay in advance for your therapy!
***Please inquire with the office regarding your insurance questions. You may need to obtain a referral that contains a medical necessity from your child’s pediatrician to aid in coverage for services. Please call the office to inquire about your specific questions. It is best to be informed before a service is rendered!
We strive to make sure we stay on schedule and that all appointments start on time. Should you arrive late for an appointment we will gladly see you, but the appointment will still end at the scheduled time. This is only fair to the family scheduled after you.
Even our hard-working staff takes an occasional vacation or gets sick (hopefully not at the same time). When a therapist is gone we try to reschedule with another one of our great therapists. Working with someone else can be very beneficial for the patient.
Oops! I forgot to call –
We kindly ask that you call as soon as possible if you cannot make a scheduled appointment. When allowed by the insurance company, we will charge $50 for a no-show appointment or a late cancellation.
We’re reasonable people and we have kids of our own so we understand that unexpected things happen. If you can’t make an appointment please call us by 7:30am on the day of your appointment to avoid fees associated with your cancellation. Please see the cancellation/attendance policy for more details.
All co-payments are due at the time of service. We will file insurance claims on your behalf and do everything we can to be paid by your insurance company; however, you are ultimately responsible for service not paid by your insurance company. Please talk to our billing department if you have any questions regarding insurance payment issues.
Private Pay Packages
We offer several financial packages to make therapy affordable if your insurance does not cover therapy services for any reason. Please inquire with the office staff regarding options for you and your family.
